Master the ModMix Module in Uhe Zebra
There is not one synth that I know off that has better and more flexible modulation then Uhe’s Zebra, its really insane! This week we’ll look at the ModMix module, a way to combine and mix between modulation sources.
When you open the ModMix, by assigning it to any parameter in Zebra, you’ll see it open up on the right side of the screen, there are three different modes, you can choose between adding all the modulation together, adding all the modulation with a intensity control and mixing between modulation sources. The first two modes are handy when you start to run out of modulation sources or when you want to modulate al lot of stuff with the same LFO. The last mode is really cool to get creative! You can assign 2 LFO’s to modulate the specific target and assign a third LFO (or MSEG) to mix between these two modulation sources. Therefore you could for example set one LFO to 1/16 and the other one to 1/8 and alternate between their rates every other bar. You can create complex rhythms with this and unexpected results, always a good thing! Use the ModMix on anything you like, it takes some practice and it feels a bit weird in the beginning, but you’ll absolutely love it! Have fun!
