In this video, Echo Sound Works goes over one of the many MISC filter types that come with Serum.
Sample and Hold is probably something you’ve heard of even if you’ve never used the effect. It’s actually very common in digital synthesis. However, being able to use on in place of a filter is uncommon!
Sample and Hold essentially degrades, decimates or reduces the sample rate of an audio signal. The cut off knob becomes your sample rate reduction knob, even if it doesn’t say so.
The Sample and Hold filter in Serum even has a bit crushing effect. The resolution knob will allow you to introduce some bit crusher into the signal as well.
All this adds up to create a very interesting filter type.
