Key and Scale Filtering Macro in Reaktor

In this video tutorial we will create a quick macro in Reaktor that allows you to choose a key/scale combination and filter out any incoming notes that aren’t a part of that scale. Also shared is an easy way to shift any incongruous notes into the desired scale

We welcome back the Reaktor guru, Salamanderanagram, as he shares with us how to make a very cool key and scale filtering macro. This type of tool is incredibly useful for helping people to better understand music theory and how keys and scales actually work. Not knowing if a specific note is part of a specific scale or not is something that need not keep you from creating the music you want to share with the world. Not when you have something like this in your workflow, that is! Tools like these remind us that it is not important how you learn something, or how long it takes to learn it, but that you are able to learn it in a way that makes sense to you and helps you progress your musical abilities at the same time.

If you are able to follow along with this tutorial from beginning to end, you should end up with a macro that works for both a Major and a Minor scale. It will actually transpose any incongruous notes played so that they match up to the notes needed to complete the selected scale. This is something that can be priceless for those needing some additional help in learning the notes of scales and understanding keys.
