Ableton's New Hands-On Lessons Teach You Music Production & Theory
Ableton has launched a new interactive website that lets users educate themselves on a variety of music production concepts. The web app provides synchronized sequencers that allow you to create tunes straight in your browser, while learning a thing or two along the way.
The tutorial courses cover an extensive range of topics, and in particular, music theory. Not only does it walk you through and explain each of the scale types, but it allows you to sequence your own melodies and hear what they sound like for yourself.
Another section of the interactive courses that we thought was really cool was the playground, providing 4 pattern sequencers including Beats, Basslines, Chords and Melodies that let you create your own 2 bar tunes. This could be really helpful for a novice that has never used a DAW before, as it lets them sandbox their ideas and could potentially inspire them to dive deeper into a real DAW.
Another special feature offered in these courses is that each user-created pattern can be exported as an Ableton Live Set, allowing them to imported into Ableton and experimented with further. For someone that has a copy of Live but is perhaps intimidated by the interface, this web app could definitely be the first step for them.
If you’re interested in brushing up on your producing knowledge, or even if want to make some beats on your work computer (not recommended :p), then you can visit the interactive website and check it out for yourself.
