Introduction to Maschine Quantization
Maschine quantization enables users to apply swing, fix rhythmic mistakes, and produce faster and more consistently.
Some producers quantize everything, all the time. Others fear quantization, worrying that it will take the life out of their grooves. In fact, Maschine quantization is very powerful, and can quickly revolutionize producer’s workflows.
Simply pressing Quantize will cause a pattern’s performance to snap to the grid. Maschine software and all of the controllers can also quantize 50%, moving the pattern’s individual notes halfway from their original position to the grid. Maschine quantization is flexible – there are several different grids to choose from, either from a Maschine controller or from the bottom left hand of the interface, and an option to turn the grid off. When the grid is off, pressing quantize will have no effect.
Maschine quantization enables users to apply swing. To see the first in our series on Maschine swing, follow the link here. Swing is not applied to notes anywhere other than on the grid, so using extreme swing settings and quantize can change the rhythm and feel of a groove instantly.
