This Robot Composes Music From Its Recordings

Dimitry Morozov, also known as ::vtol::, has designed a robot that records sounds from its environment and then arranges the audio into a composition, sequenced in the order in which they were recorded.

From the video’s description, Morozov explains:

“It is a kind of reality re-mixer – by simply removing the silence and pauses between loud sounds and words, it creates the sense of very rhythmical and organised aural experience, which sounds very musical to me.”

If this machine were to be placed in a setting with a variety of sound sources, for instance a shopping mall, we imagine things would really start to get cool! Explore more of Morozov’s creations.
