This $20 Drum Chip Emulates The Roland TR-808
In this video, we get a demonstration of the u808 drum chip, a programmable 14-pin chip that contains a total of 8 polyphonic vintage drum sounds. While it doesn’t contain the analog circuitry of an original 808, it does a fantastic job in emulating these original sounds.
What’s even cooler about the chip is that it’s entirely open source, allowing you to program its functions however you wish. The man who developed it, Swedish musician Janost, has provided the source code for this.
