There is no limit to what can be done with old audio mediums, such as with cassette tapes. Alexis Malbert, a cassette tape connoisseur, has developed music-making machines since 1999. His latest creation, the scratchette, allows tapes to be used as scratch machines, similar to scratching vinyl records.
The scratching sound is produced by moving the tape heads against the audiotape inside of the cassette. A fascinating creation at the very least, there is a lot to be said for the future of sound innovation. For more on the scratchette, visit Malbert’s website here.
