AudioThing is proud to bundle up 3 of their most popular plug-ins of all time. For the first time ever, you can now get Wires, Valves and Springs in one ULTIMATE package.
- Wires is an easy to use tilt EQ plugin with mid/side mode. Turn the main knob to the right, and you get more highs and less lows; turn it to the left, and lows are boosted while highs are attenuated.
- Valves is a plugin effect that uses side-chaining to combine signals in new and interesting ways: put in any two signals and they will dance around each other like courting birds drunk on fermented cherries. Add life to the plainest signals with vibrato, or destroy them in interesting ways with extreme modulation speeds.
- Springs is an easy to use granular reverb with pitch shifting and mid/side mode. Texture can transform any sound into an ambient soundscape, or add that drone vibe to your tracks.
Turn the echoes of the past into the music of now with Wires.
German composer and YouTuber Hainbach opened his treasure chest for us: we are happy to present to you Wires, an accurately modeled and enhanced 1970s Soviet wire recorder.
Made originally for military and secret service use across the Iron Curtain, in the hands of a few avant garde musicians it became a magical lofi-tool and ghostly echo machine. Now this rare and rather finicky to operate piece of hardware is available for the first time as a faithful yet modern plugin.
MAIN FEATURES
- Magnetic Wire Emulation
- Echo Section
- Original Speaker and Mic Emulation
- Start and Stop effects
- Hiss and Motor noise with Envelope
- Resizable Window
- Preset system with randomizer
Transform your audio to the world of numbers stations and secret operations, dub out to very unusual echoes or make the most lofi beats to study too. We took great care to get all the idiosyncratic behavior exactly right – it reacts dynamically to the input and does stuff to audio that is a completely different texture to magnetic tape.
There is a special tone to the hair-thin wire and the vacuum tube output stage of this machine, unheard of anywhere else. The standard way to make a unit such as this music is to put it on an aux channel of a mixer, to turn it into a fixed tempo echo. We offer all the variable time features you want, as well as the option to switch off the rather high noise floor of this machine without sacrificing the rather alive sound.
WIRE RECORDERS
Magnetic wire recorders went out of fashion after the advent of magnetic tape, surviving only in special operations such as flight recorders, space flight, or clandestine operations (wearing a wire denotes not the cable but the recorder). The particular model of recorder we modeled comes from East German Army stock – on the reels you could still hear traces of military operations.
LO-FI
Who needs tape for lo-fi? This machine is taking the term “lo-fi” to an entirely new and haunting level.
There is a special tone to the hair-thin wire and the vacuum tube output stage of this wire recorder, unheard of anywhere else.
Wires turns the most boring signals into sepia coloured magic.
Valves is a vintage valve emulation plugin with multi-mode resonant filter and cabinet/EQ section
The valve section is modeled after classic vintage tubes, with added grit and custom gain control.
The filter section is modeled after a classic ladder filter (2-pole or 4-pole) with low pass, high pass, bandpass and notch modes.
The cabinet/EQ section features a selection of modeled cabinets with classic bass and treble EQ controls.
SPECIFICATIONS:
- Tube Overdrive
- 8 cabinets with Bass and Treble EQ
- State Variable Filter: LP, HP, BP, and Notch (2 or 4-pole)
- 16x Oversample
- 35 Presets
- Resizable Window
- Preset system with randomizer
WARM UP
With up to 16x oversampling, Valves can be used to add that authentic tube character to your tracks.
Using the built-in Cabinet/EQ section you can emulate several types of guitar amplifiers and further shape the overdrive sound.
The state variable filter features LowPass, HighPass, BandPass, and Notch modes. It can be used pre or post valve.
VINTAGE SPRING REVERB + BAXANDALL
Springs is a plugin which features a collection of vintage spring reverbs paired with an authentic Baxandall EQ emulation.
Springs features emulations from 8 types of spring reverbs, ranging from a long 6-spring pipe to a tiny battery-powered single-spring unit. We have used a combination of convolution and modelling to recreate the vintage character of each reverb.
MAIN SPECIFICATIONS:
- 8 Vintage Spring Reverbs
- Baxandall EQ (three bands)
- 50 Presets
- Resizable Window
- Preset system with randomizer
Spring reverbs were usually paired with tone stacks from guitar amplifiers. Springs features one of the most iconic and unique sounding tone stack equalizers: the Baxandall EQ. A classic Baxandall tone stack usually features just the bass and treble bands, but we have also added a Mid band (with control over the Q).
SPRING REVERBS
We have collected and emulated several spring reverbs. Each one with its own sound.
- Audition – A small guitar head amplifier, very noisy, and with a very basic spring reverb. Released in 1975
- GBS – A pair of Accutronics spring tanks housed in a length of plastic drainpipe.
- RE-201 – Classic Tape Echo with Reverb Tank. Released in 1974.
- SR-202W – Used by many artists as the “secret weapon” to add depth and character to vocals.
- HR-12 Vintage Japanese spring reverb, branded as “Echo Unit”. Dating from the last 60s to the 70s.
- A-199 – Modern eurorack spring reverb module.
- REV-25 – Vintage Japanese spring reverb. Also rebranded as AM-534. From the 70s.
- RA-844 – Very small, battery powered, solid-state reverberation amplifier.
BAXANDALL EQ
The Baxandall EQ is a classic type of EQ, mostly found in guitar amps, and usually limited to just a single tone control or two bands (bass and treble). We have added a third band (mid with Q control) to shape the reverb sound further. One important characteristic of the Baxandall EQ is that the bands interact with each other.
This may seem like an unwanted behavior, but it’s one of the reasons why the Baxandall EQ curves are smooth and musical.
HOW SPRING REVERBS WORK
A spring reverb is an electromechanical device that uses transducers/pickups with steel springs in order to simulate the reflections of a reverb.
The input signal is passed through a transducer to one or multiple springs, the vibrations are then captured by an output transducer on the opposite side.
Using multiple springs with different sizes and different thickness can create a more interesting and rich reverb sound.
