When mixing music, monitoring is important. Given this, many will pose the question…can headphones work? This video from Multiplier investigates this matter, helping us understand the key differences between monitor speakers and our pair of cans.
The primary difference between monitors and speakers is that monitors take advantage of an acoustic space. Contrary to headphones in which the stereo image is jammed into our ears, using speakers allows us to hear the full scope of the mix. However, an appropriate use of reference tracks can allow us to mix using virtually anything.
