Meet The Man Who Popularized The Hip-Hop Air Horn
In this video from Great Big Story, we become familiar with Luis Diaz, the man that many regard as having popularized the infamous hip-hop air horn. Although the use of the sound has gotten to the point where it sounds cheasy and humorous, the air horn definitely had its place at one time.
Something we weren’t aware of is that the use of air-horns in music started in Jamaica in the late 1970’s, being used in dancehalls (equivalent of a modern club) as a source of sound to hype people up. DJ’s noticed that people liked it so much, that they began to use one-shot samples in their live sets.
