Creating Dubstep With A Fidget Spinner
In this video from Chris Beckstrom, we watch a fidget spinner being used to create some grimy dubstep by controlling the LFO on the modular synth.
From information provided by Beckstrom’s Instagram post:
Analog dubstep! Using a fidget spinner to block the light going to a photoresistor (ldr) which is changing the amount of voltage it puts out. That voltage is then used to modulate a filter cutoff and a vca adding an octave lower. My synth now has moving parts!
While the excitement surrounding fidget spinners has came to a screeching halt, it’s still cool to see the once overwhelmingly-popular object being used to create music with a modular synth. Perhaps fidget spinners will see a revival in the near future?
