Automatonism Puts A Eurorack Modular Inside Your Computer
Automatonism is a new open-source modular synthesizer with a total of 67 in-built modules that are designed to emulate the ways in which Eurorack modules communicate with eachother through CV. They even have a series of synth recipes that can help beginning users get off their feet.
From their site, we receive a rather elegant explanation of modular synthesis…
Modular synthesis is akin to musical gardening: modules can spring to life and their interconnections suggest the formation of a sonic ecosystem. The act of patching is no different to playing any other instrument: it affords the opportunity to express oneself and directly engage with other people.
While there are certainly other modular synthesizer emulations out there, many of these do not offer an open-source platform such as with what’s provided with the Pure Data environment. With something as personalized and customizable as modular synthesis, having an open-source emulation is powerful.
