In this tutorial, learn how to make a Melbourne bass in Sylenth that is actually pretty similar to the Chainsmokers #Selfie bass!
I’m going to be honest, Chainsmokers hit song #Selfie isn’t my favorite EDM track to grace the charts in the past year. I do however, really like the Melbourne style bass it features in it’s first drop! To my ears, I hear Sugar Bytes WOW on the actual bass sound, but in this tutorial you can learn how to get a similar sounding Melbourne bass in Sylenth.
I’ve noticed that anytime I program a sound using the Bandpass filter in Sylenth, the Cut Off frequency becomes very sensitive. I had mine set to around 120 Hz for this sound, but you play around with the Cut Off knob to really change the feel of the patch.
I also used a lot of distortion for the Melbourne bass in Sylenth because it got me a little closer to the actual Selfie sound without having to use third party processing like Sugar Bytes WOW.
Finally, carving out the right frequencies with simple a EQ can really help make the sound seem more “Melbourne”.
