Nu School Style NI Massive Deep House Bass

We welcome back Jonny Strinati as he share how to design a nice NI Massive deep house bass synth in the Nu School style. This is a quick and easy to follow tutorial, perfect for users of all experience levels.

The deep house music genre is here to stay, whether you prefer the nu school or old school style. A beautiful combination of sounds and atmosphere that make a perfect playground for sound design enthusiasts and users of NI Massive. This synth makes creating sounds for this kind of music so easy and this tutorial will have you understanding how in just a few minutes. This particular NI Massive deep house bass is one that can be used as it is, or can be quickly tweaked to match your project with very little effort. It’s a classic signature sound that will have you wrapping up that latest song in no time.

This NI Massive deep house bass starts out with a default Square-Saw I wavetable loaded into all three main oscillators. The pitch of OSC1 is dropped one octave. The pitch of OSC2 is dropped two octaves. The pitch of OSC3 is raised seven semitones. This pitch offset of OSC3 is what provides much of the recognizable character at the very core of this iconic sound. This sound is then routed through a Lowpass4 filter, loaded into the Filter1 panel. An envelope is set up and assigned to modulate the Cutoff parameter of this filter to change how the sound is delivered.

Now a Synced Delay effect unit is added to the FX1 tab to extend this NI Massive deep house bass and provide some serious depth. Then a Chorus effect is added to the mix. This adds more depth, some width and motion to the sound. The EQ is turned on and used to shape the sound by attenuating some frequencies. You can adjust your EQ according to your project’s needs or personal preference. And lastly a quick stop at the Voicing tab. Here the synth is set to run in Monophon mode with a total of two Unisono Voices. This allows for some glide between notes, which can be adjusted on the OSC tab.
